COVID-19 testing in Memphis: Where should I go if I’m looking for a coronavirus test?

Posted: December 30, 2020

COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Memphis, Shelby County and our surrounding communities. If you’re looking to get a coronavirus test, the first question that might pop into your head is “where should I go to get tested?”

There are some important things to know when you’re looking for a place to get tested.

Some testing sites are busy and have longer wait times, but there are others where you can get in and out relatively quickly. You should call ahead and/or try to set up a designated appointment time when possible.

Keep in mind, not all testing sites are the same. They aren’t all set up or intended for “community testing.”

At MLH Adult Hospitals

COVID-19 screening and testing at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare hospital sites is an extension of our Emergency Department screening.

It is only recommended for patients with severe symptoms of COVID-19.

We recommend people who have mild symptoms or are asymptomatic visit a local community testing site, a Minor Medical Center or their primary care provider for testing to save time and limit exposure to others who may be COVID-19 positive.

Methodist Minor Medical Centers

Methodist Minor Medical Centers offer COVID-19 testing for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.

Patients who would like to receive a COVID-19 test may call their local Minor Med location and schedule an appointment for testing. When you arrive for your appointment, you will check-in at the front desk to pay your co-pay and then be seen by a provider who will administer your test.

COVID-19 antibody screening and testing is also available at Methodist Minor Meds. Antibody tests are intended for use as an aid in identifying individuals that had an illness that may have been COVID-19 and may have since developed an immunity to the disease.

Community Testing Sites

There are community testing sites throughout the area. Not all of them are open every day. Operating days and hours vary and are subject to change. You are strongly advised to follow scheduling instructions before going to a testing site.

Methodist Medical Group - Primary Care

Methodist Medical Group - Primary Care also provides asymptomatic and symptomatic COVID-19 testing for patients. Call your provider’s office to schedule an appointment.
